Rodney Hinton Jr. was arrested on May 2, 2025 in Ohio. Hinton was charged with killing a sheriff’s deputy in retaliation for police shooting his son.

Hinton Jr’s son Ryan was shot and killed by Cincinnati police on May 1. Following the tragic events, Rodney allegedly drove his car into Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson.

Cincinnati Police Chief Terri Theetge spoke to reporters virtually on May 16. Theetge stated the officer in question feared for his life. Ryan Hinton and three others were allegedly seen on body cam footage running from a stolen car. Theetge answered a series of questions about the May 1 incident.

Rodney Hinton Jr pleaded not guilty to the charges. Things got heated in the courtroom between police officers and those who came to support Rodney Hinton Jr. After a short recess the parties were separated and the court proceedings continued.

On Tuesday May 17 Rodney Hinton Jr was arraigned with new charges of aggravated murder. These new charges include the possibility of the death penalty. Hinton Jr pleaded not guilty to the extra charges.

GiveSendGo, another popular fundraising platform has allowed Hinton Jr’s sister to start another campaign. The fundraising efforts have nearly reached $50,000 as of May 20.
