National Guard Deployed in Washington D.C.

President Trump announced Monday morning that 800 National Guard officers would be deployed in Washington D.C. Trump also stated Monday that this approach might be expanded to other cities, including Chicago.

The President plans to take federal control over the Washington D.C. police department. Citing “bloodthirsty criminals” and “mobs of wild youth.”

Federal officials announced violent crime in the city was at a 30-year low.

In late July, the President mobilized national guard troops to Los Angeles in response to protests. Unlike California or other states, the District of Columbia does not have control over its national guard.
